- A reader is never asked for personal data in order to read an article.
- The website itself sets no cookies and loads no analytics or advertising code.
- The web server records a technical access log entry for every request, and deletes it after 30 days.
- One value may be stored on the device: the appearance preference, written only after the reader clicks the appearance control.
- Correspondence sent to contact@metaexplorer.org is processed for the purpose of answering it.
What this notice covers
This notice covers the Metaexplorer website and the corporate electronic mail address named above. It covers nothing else. The website publishes free educational reference articles about blockchain technology, and it publishes no outbound links.
Data protection contact
The contact point for data protection is contact@metaexplorer.org, which reaches the person responsible for this notice. An enquiry is answered within 5 business days.
No Data Protection Officer has been appointed, and none is required. The conditions in Article 37 of the General Data Protection Regulation are not met. The processing described here is neither large-scale systematic monitoring nor large-scale processing of special categories.
Representative in the European Union
No representative under Article 27 of the General Data Protection Regulation has been designated. The company relies on the exemption in Article 27(2)(a).
The processing described in this notice is limited to technical connection data needed to operate and secure the website. It is not large-scale processing. It includes none of the special categories of data referred to in Article 9(1). It includes no personal data relating to criminal convictions and offences within the meaning of Article 10. It is unlikely to result in a risk to the rights and freedoms of readers.
The controller keeps a dated written assessment of that conclusion. That assessment is reviewed when the processing described in this notice changes.
Server access logs
An access log is the record that a web server writes for each request it answers. The server that delivers this website writes one entry for every request. Each entry contains the following fields.
- The internet protocol address of the connecting device.
- The date and the time of the request.
- The hypertext transfer protocol method.
- The requested path, including any query string attached to it.
- The protocol version.
- The response status code.
- The number of bytes transferred.
- The user-agent string sent by the browser.
- The referrer, where the browser sends one.
The purposes are the delivery of the requested page, the security of the server, the detection of automated abuse and the diagnosis of technical faults. The log is not used to measure an audience or to build a profile of a reader.
The lawful basis is Article 6(1)(f) of the General Data Protection Regulation, which permits processing necessary for a legitimate interest. That interest is the secure and correct operation of the website, and the prevention and investigation of attacks, automated abuse and technical faults.
The company has weighed that interest against the interests and the fundamental rights of readers. The data is technical, is held briefly, is not combined with other sources and is not used for profiling. On that basis the interest of the company is not overridden by the interests of readers.
Entries are retained for 30 days on the company's own server and are then deleted. Addresses are stored as the server receives them. They are not anonymised, not hashed and not truncated.
ITENOS GmbH separately keeps connection records of its own, under its own obligations and for its own periods. The company does not determine the content or the duration of those records.
E-mail correspondence
A message sent to contact@metaexplorer.org is processed for the purpose of answering it. The data processed is the sender address, any name the sender gives, the subject line, the message content, any attachment and the technical headers added in transit.
For a general enquiry, the lawful basis is Article 6(1)(f) of the General Data Protection Regulation. The legitimate interest is the handling of correspondence addressed to the company and a short record of what was asked and answered.
For correspondence sent in view of a possible advertising agreement, the lawful basis is Article 6(1)(b) of that Regulation. That basis covers steps taken at the request of the person concerned before a contract is concluded.
Correspondence is retained while the matter remains open, and for a short reference period afterwards. It is then deleted.
Where an invoice results, longer statutory retention applies. Turkish commercial and tax legislation requires accounting records and their supporting documents to be kept for the prescribed periods.
Advertising on this website
Each page carries a single sponsored slot. The block is static and first-party: it is stored on the company's own server and delivered with the page.
There is no advertising network, no advertising tag, no call to an advertising server, no tracking pixel, no impression beacon and no click-tracking redirect. An advertiser receives no reader data of any kind.
An advertising platform may append a click identifier to a link that leads to this website. Such an identifier arrives as part of the requested path and is recorded in the access log, for the same period of 30 days. It is not read, not matched and not reported to any third party.
What we do not do
The following categories are absent from this website.
- No analytics platform and no statistics service.
- No tag manager and no container script.
- No advertising remarketing tag and no conversion tag.
- No social network pixel.
- No session recording and no heat mapping.
- No A/B testing and no personalisation.
- No third-party comment system.
- No share widget and no social button.
- No embedded video and no embedded map.
- No third-party font service, because fonts come from the company's own server.
No personal data about a reader is obtained from any third party, data broker, public register, social network or enrichment service. No personal data is sold, and none is shared with another organisation for that organisation's own purposes.
Hosting and network delivery
The website is hosted by ITENOS GmbH in Germany. That provider acts as a processor, which is a service provider that processes personal data only on the documented instructions of the controller. A written data processing agreement is in place with that provider.
Cloudflare provides delivery and network security under a written agreement of the same kind. In that role it processes connection data, such as the address of the connecting device, in order to filter automated traffic.
Neither provider is permitted by its agreement to use reader data for its own commercial purposes.
International transfers
The company is established in Türkiye. The servers that hold the access log are located in Germany. Where Germany is not Türkiye, the storage of that log is a transfer of personal data abroad.
Where that storage is such a transfer, the basis under Turkish law is the standard contract mechanism provided for in Article 9 of the Personal Data Protection Law numbered 6698. The standard contract forms part of the written agreement with the processor.
Where personal data of a person in the European Economic Area reaches Germany, the mechanism relied on is the set of standard contractual clauses adopted by the European Commission. Those clauses form part of the same written agreement. Where the corporate mailbox is operated on the infrastructure of ITENOS GmbH, the same country and the same mechanisms apply to correspondence.
Your rights under the General Data Protection Regulation
Where the General Data Protection Regulation applies, the following rights are available to you.
- The right of access to your personal data, under Article 15.
- The right to rectification, under Article 16.
- The right to erasure, under Article 17.
- The right to restriction of processing, under Article 18.
- The right to data portability, under Article 20.
- The right to object, including objection to processing based on legitimate interests, under Article 21.
- The right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, under Article 77.
A request is sent to contact@metaexplorer.org. The company answers within one month of receipt, in accordance with Article 12(3) of the Regulation. Where a request is complex, that period may be extended by up to two further months. You are informed of the extension and of the reason within the first month.
No processing described in this notice relies on consent. Where the company cannot identify you from the data it holds, it may ask for the information that makes an answer possible.
A complaint may be lodged with the supervisory authority of your member state of habitual residence, of your place of work or of the place of the alleged infringement.
Your rights under the Turkish Personal Data Protection Law
Within the meaning of the Personal Data Protection Law numbered 6698, the data controller is BEKTAS DİJİTAL İÇERİK STÜDYOSU ANONİM ŞİRKETİ. Its registered office is at Polonezköy Mah. Kayışdağı Cad. No: 299, Kat: 9, Daire: 2, Beyoğlu, 34421 İstanbul, Türkiye. Its corporate electronic mail address is contact@metaexplorer.org.
The purposes are the delivery of the requested page, the security of the server, the detection of automated abuse and the diagnosis of technical faults. Correspondence is processed for the purpose of answering it. Where an advertising agreement is in prospect or in force, correspondence is also processed for the conclusion and the performance of that agreement. Compliance with statutory retention obligations is a further purpose.
The collection method is electronic and partly automated. Server log data is collected by the web server as it answers each request. Correspondence data is collected when a person writes to the corporate address.
Article 5(2)(f) is the ground for server logs, security and general correspondence. That ground permits processing necessary for the legitimate interests of the controller, provided that the fundamental rights and freedoms of the data subject are not harmed.
Article 5(2)(c) is the ground where a contract is in prospect or in force, because the processing is directly related to that contract. Article 5(2)(ç) is the ground for the statutory retention of invoiced correspondence.
Under Article 11 of that Law, a data subject has the following rights.
- To learn whether personal data concerning the data subject is processed.
- To request information where personal data has been processed.
- To learn the purpose of the processing and whether the data is used in accordance with that purpose.
- To know the third parties, in the country or abroad, to whom personal data is transferred.
- To request the correction of incomplete or inaccurate personal data, and the notification of that correction to third parties to whom the data was transferred.
- To request the erasure or destruction of personal data within the conditions of Article 7, and the notification of that action to those same third parties.
- To object to a result to the detriment of the data subject that arises exclusively from the automated analysis of personal data.
- To claim compensation for damage suffered as a result of unlawful processing.
An application is made to the same corporate electronic mail address, contact@metaexplorer.org, in accordance with the Communiqué on the Procedures and Principles of Application to the Data Controller. The controller answers within thirty days of receipt and in principle without charge.
An applicant may thereafter complain to the Personal Data Protection Board. That step is available where an application is refused, where the answer is found insufficient or where no answer is given within thirty days.
Readers in Japan
The following particulars are stated for readers in Japan, in the terms of the Act on the Protection of Personal Information. The operator is BEKTAS DİJİTAL İÇERİK STÜDYOSU ANONİM ŞİRKETİ. Its registered office is at Polonezköy Mah. Kayışdağı Cad. No: 299, Kat: 9, Daire: 2, Beyoğlu, 34421 İstanbul, Türkiye. The representative of the operator is Leyla Bektas, the founder and editor of Metaexplorer.
The purposes of use are the delivery of the requested page, the security of the server, the detection of automated abuse and the diagnosis of technical faults. Correspondence is used for the purpose of answering it. The contact point for complaints and requests is contact@metaexplorer.org.
The information is handled in Türkiye by the company and on servers in Germany. Access log data is not used to identify an individual reader.
Automated decision-making
No decision producing legal effects concerning a reader, or similarly significantly affecting a reader, is made by automated means. This is stated within the meaning of Article 22 of the General Data Protection Regulation, and it includes profiling.
Providing data is not required
No personal data has to be provided in order to read this website. Providing personal data is neither a statutory nor a contractual requirement.
For a reader who does not write to the company, the only data recorded is the technical connection data described in the section on server access logs.
Children
The website is not directed at children. It publishes general educational reference material written for an adult general readership. No age data is collected, requested or inferred.
Security
Pages are delivered over an encrypted transport connection, so that a request and a response are protected in transit. Administrative access to the server is restricted to a small number of named accounts and is protected by strong authentication.
Data minimisation is applied as a technical measure. The server records the log fields listed above and nothing further, and the website requests no personal data from a reader.
The company does not claim that any method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
